Empowering Patients and Promoting Awareness

Generic Skin Cancer Drugs in India

Cancer awareness is the key to early detection and better health-seeking behaviour. Aark Pharmaceuticals is dedicated to create awareness about cancer, offering assistance to both cancer patients and their families.

The treatment of skin cancer depends on various factors such as the type of skin cancer, its stage, location, and the patient’s overall health. Here are some common medicines and treatment options used for skin cancer:

  1. Topical Medications: Topical medications are applied directly to the skin and are often used for superficial skin cancers such as basal cell carcinoma (BCC) and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) in situ. Examples include:

    • Imiquimod (Aldara)
    • Fluorouracil (5-FU, Efudex)
    • Diclofenac (Solaraze)
  2. Cryotherapy: Cryotherapy involves freezing the cancerous cells with liquid nitrogen. It is commonly used for superficial skin cancers such as BCC and SCC.

  3. Surgery: Surgical excision is a common treatment for various types of skin cancer. It involves removing the cancerous tissue along with a margin of healthy tissue to ensure complete removal. Mohs micrographic surgery is a specialized technique used for certain types of skin cancer, especially those with high-risk features or located in cosmetically sensitive areas.

  4. Electrodesiccation and Curettage (ED&C): ED&C is a procedure that involves scraping off the cancerous tissue with a curette (a sharp, spoon-shaped instrument) followed by the application of an electric current to destroy any remaining cancer cells. It is often used for superficial BCCs and SCCs.

  5. Radiation Therapy: Radiation therapy uses high-energy rays to kill cancer cells. It may be used as the primary treatment for skin cancers that are difficult to treat with surgery, or in combination with other treatments. Radiation therapy is also used for patients who are not candidates for surgery due to various reasons.

  6. Targeted Therapy: Targeted therapy drugs specifically target certain molecules or pathways involved in the growth and spread of cancer cells. While less common for skin cancer compared to other types of cancer, targeted therapy may be used for advanced or metastatic skin cancers. Examples include:

    • Vemurafenib (Zelboraf) and dabrafenib (Tafinlar) for melanoma with BRAF mutations
  7. Immunotherapy: Immunotherapy drugs stimulate the body’s immune system to recognize and attack cancer cells. Immunotherapy has revolutionized the treatment of advanced melanoma and may also be used for other types of skin cancer. Examples include:

    • Pembrolizumab (Keytruda)
    • Nivolumab (Opdivo)
    • Ipilimumab (Yervoy)

The choice of treatment depends on various factors, including the type and stage of skin cancer, the location of the tumor, and the patient’s overall health and preferences. It’s essential for patients to discuss their treatment options thoroughly with their healthcare team to make informed decisions about their care. Early detection and treatment of skin cancer can significantly improve outcomes. Regular skin examinations and sun protection measures are important for prevention and early detection.
